We know a lot of you have been wondering what the plans are for the GNV Market, so here is the update from South Main Station, the GNV Market, and Heartwood Soundstage.
First, we are excited to announce new plans for Swallowtail Farms and South Main Station. Swallowtail is opening a farm store near its property on Hawthorne Road that will have meat, eggs, dairy, and flowers. Swallowtail will also be stocking the same items in a new coffee shop being opened at South Main Station by Afternoon, which is scheduled to be operational at the end of this year.
In light of these developments and the many existing farmers’ markets in our city, we have decided not to continue the GNV Market.
We are very grateful to the community for supporting our market these past few years. We first brought it to Heartwood after Covid shut down the downtown market. Our intention was to maintain a farmers’ market on this side of town and to introduce people to Heartwood and our newly imagined public space, soon to become South Main Station. At the time, we did not yet have restaurants, a brewery, or an independent bookstore. We merely had a vision for what we intended to build. We now have these things with plans for more, and in the meantime, Gainesville’s farmers’ market offerings have continued to grow.
While the GNV Market has fulfilled its initial purpose, we are as committed as ever to many of the things it brought to our community. We want to provide a fun, family-safe, experience for everyone. We love sharing live music and gathering with our community. And we will continue to champion local business, farmers, artists, and musicians.
To these ends, we are now especially focused on creating beautiful, pedestrian-oriented, outdoor spaces to gather, eat, drink, and play. In addition to the Afternoon coffee shop and farm store, we cannot wait to share our newly reimagined garden space along Main Street later this year.
In addition, over the summer, South Main Station and Heartwood Soundstage launched a new weekly event. “Community Nights,” featuring a local singer-songwriter for a month-long residency, playing every Wednesday from 6-9, in the South Main Station courtyard. This has been well received by our community and is continuing to grow and improve. We are planning on adding vendors to the first Community Nights of every month. If you are a vendor interested in participating, please apply through the form linked in South Main Station’s Instagram.
We hope to see you soon,
